How To Protect Yourself From Illegal Vapes
In light of a recent article posted by BBC News, we want to reassure our customers that we are fully committed to their safety when switching to vaping above all else. The BBC have argued that children are at risk from illegal vapes, and more should be done to protect them from unregulated products which contain high levels of nicotine - and we couldn’t agree more, which is why we would never sell or promote unregulated products.
Vaping remains the number one choice for smokers looking to quit for many reasons: it has helped around two million people kick the habit for good, it's been publicly declared as 95% safer than smoking by PHE, and research shows it is more effective than any other smoking cessation therapies. However, illegal vape products are extremely dangerous as they are likely to be non compliant with the TPD regulations.
Whilst counterfeit manufacturers often pose as real brands such as Elf Bar, making it difficult for people to tell the differences, there are ways that you can ensure your safety when vaping by protecting yourself from illegal vapes.
1. EC-ID & Product Verification
Many vapers aren’t aware that all e-cig products can be checked in an online portal by searching the EC-ID number. The EC-ID number is located on the packaging of the vape; it won’t take any more than five minutes to punch in the number when purchasing your vape.
This online portal was created by MHRA in a bid to tackle the sale of counterfeit vapes.
As well as the EC-ID verification - many vape brands have their own product verification tool to stop the distribution of counterfeits. This is usually located on their main website. This includes GeekVape - perhaps the most widely replicated disposable, as well as Lost Vape, and Vaporesso.
2. Product Knowledge
With counterfeit disposables offering 5ml of e-liquid and up to 1500 puffs per bar, having a general grasp of the law will go a long way. For example, the TPD states that no single-use cartridge, tank or disposable vape can exceed a capacity of 2ml - so if you spot a ‘Geek Bar’ offering over 2ml of e-liquid within one bar - this is either an illegal or fake vape.
How Do Ecigwizard Protect Vapers From Illegal Vapes?
Whilst checking the EC-ID number, serial number and knowing laws surrounding the vape you’re purchasing your vape will ensure your safety - we understand it may not be feasible for everyone which is why we highly recommend this final step.
Shopping with a trusted vendor such as Ecigwizard means your products are automatically TPD-compliant and come directly from the manufacturer - so you won’t have to worry about checking the serial or EC-ID number, although you’re more than welcome to do so.
However, we also have a range of further measures in place that ensure the safety of our customers:
- Age verification: To prevent our products from getting into the wrong hands, we use Experian and 1Account to ensure our customers are the legal age to vape.
- Testing: Our products undergo strict testing to confirm they meet the quality and safety standards set out by the Tobacco & Related Products Regulations (TRPR)
- MHRA: All of our e-cigarettes and e-liquids are notified and published by the Medicine & Healthcare products Regulatory Agency before touching the market.
