You can take vapes on planes, but it must be fully switched off and kept in your hand luggage, not your checked baggage. The Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) classifies vapes and  vape kits as portable electronic devices, meaning they are classed in the same way as laptops and mobile phones. 

Please be aware you can only take vapes on a plane with you if the country you are leaving and the country you are travelling to both permit them. It is a good idea to check whether vapes are legal in the country you are travelling to before you pack your vape kits and e-liquids.

It is not permitted for any passenger to vape on a plane or in an airport, vaping on aircraft carries the same penalties as smoking. Anyone vaping on a plane will face penalties such as fines and/or arrest when disembarking the plane. You can bring e-liquids with you in your hand luggage as long as it is stored in clear plastic bags. The total amount of e-liquid permitted in carry-on luggage is nothing exceeding 100ml. You are also able to pack e-liquid in your checked luggage, but again it is best to store in plastic bags to avoid cracks and leakage into the rest of your luggage.

Flight companies often enforce restrictions on how many vapes you are allowed to pack. Electronic devices and batteries are restricted per passenger, vape kits/ vapes count towards this total as they contain batteries. It may be easiest to bring a vape kit, e-liquid under 100ml and one rechargeable battery, as these fall within the rules and are long lasting.

• Ryanair permits no more than 20 vapes in your carry on luggage.
• British Airways limit lithium-ion batteries in your hand luggage to 15 per passenger.
• Easyjet and Virgin Atlantic don't specify a limit, so it's probably a good idea to check with them before you travel if you plan to bring a lot of vapes.

It is prohibited to charge vapes on planes, as it is then difficult to monitor if someone is using the pretense of charging their vape to actually vape on a plane unseen. Unfortunately, although vapes are classed as electronic devices they come under a lot more scrutiny than laptops or phones. To avoid issues make sure you fully charge your vape before your journey.
