Vape Liquid Tax 2026

What is the vape liquid tax and how will it work?

On October 1st 2026 a new vape tax of £2.20 per 10ml of e-liquid(vape juice) will begin to take effect. This rate applies to all e-liquids, regardless of nicotine content. Suppliers will be expected to attach stamps to all e-liquid to indicate the vape tax has been paid.

The new tax forms part of the government's plan to tackle youth vaping, at the same time keeping vaping more affordable than smoking.

Which products will be impacted by the tax?

  • E-liquids: the tax will charge customers an extra £2.20 per 10ml of vape juice, with VAT increasing this to around £2.64 in retail costs.
  • Refillable vape kits: The tax will also impact refillable vape kits, as they also contain e-liquids. This may be a cheaper way to buy as the tax is then spread across multiple items.
  • Nicotine free vapes: Surprisingly nicotine free vape juice will also be impacted by the new tax, in order to further discourage underage vape usage.
  • Any products with vape juice included: including pods and starter kits. Brands may begin selling items separately to avoid the vape tax affecting the price of their non liquid products.

What is the current tax on vapes, and vape juice?

Currently vape juices have no specific extra tax attached to them, they are taxed at the standard rate of 20%.

Will vapes be taxed like cigarettes?

Vapes are not currently taxed more than the standard rate of tax, even after the ban the government will ensure vapes are not taxed as much as cigarettes are.
