Over 6M Vapes A Week Binned Despite Disposable Ban

It has been suggested that around 6 million vapes are being binned each week, despite the disposable vape ban coming into effect in June 2025. This equals over 1 billion over the past 4 years.

According to recycling campaigners Material Focus, this figure represents a 23% reduction from the previous year, but still needs to be reduced urgently.

Material focus also alarmingly found that 47% of vapers in their study were unaware that their vape should be recycled!

Why is it important to reuse your vape?

Good upkeep of your rechargeable vape is key if you want to use it again and again. However, some vapers don't actually realise that now all vapes are rechargeable, refillable and recyclable, directly due to the ban.

Recycling

When vapes are disposed of incorrectly they can cause fires in landfill due to lithium ion batteries being damaged. This is why recycling your old devices is so important, under the WEEE directive, most reputable vape retailers will allow you to recycle an old vape with them whenever you purchase a new one. Alternatively major supermarkets like ASDA and Sainsbury`s allow you to recycle your electrical items with them, cost-free.
